It flashed before my closed eyes, a vision that was an answer to prayer and it was completely unexpected. I’m not the vision-receiving type. I strategize, plan, execute, dream, and cast visions, but always for other people or other projects.
But this?
This one was for me. My eyes were closed during prayer and a simple request resulted in a humbling response. “Show us where to go, Lord.” Everything faded to black until all I could see in front of my closed eyes was a glittering gold cross – with an “x” radiating from the very center.
“X” marks the spot.
- Show us where to go with our words and our blogs and our space online. To the cross.
- Show us where to go when our hearts hurt and we feel less than. To the cross.
- Show us where to go when we plan. To the cross.
- Show us where to go when we’re weary. To the cross.
I felt a soul-deep whisper in my spirit, to go hard and fast for that cross before the rest of the world came back into focus and my eyes were back on selfish desires. It’s not easy for me, if I’m honest. Often the cross isn’t the loudest, the shiniest, the most attractive option. It’s not orderly and simple.
I like orderly.
But there is more peace in the chaos of the cross than in the strategic and selfish desires of my heart. When we’re faced with a decision about where to go, choose Jesus. His way, His plans, His timing. His kingdom where He shines brightest and we stop seeking our place in the spotlight because He IS the light.
I don’t know what this week holds for you. I don’t know what decisions you have to make, what circumstances you’ll find yourself in, or what you have heavy on your heart. But know that I’m praying for you and believing that my little vision wasn’t just for me, but maybe an answer for you, too.
When you’re wondering where to go?
Go to the cross.

When you said, “there is more peace in the chaos of the cross,” I thought about all the Passion movies and the scenes of when Jesus dies and the earthquake comes. They always show the chaos, but right at the foot of the cross was Mary, John, and Mary Magdalene…and they were never afraid of the earthquake. They’re always depicted as just looking at Jesus. That’s what you reminded me…in the chaos, even when we’re broken at the foot of the cross, continue to look at Jesus.

In my current season of asking God,”Ok, what now or what’s next.” I really need to be reminded that all I have to do is go to the cross. Thanks for the reminder.
Crystal says
So grateful you were encouraged by it, Amy. Big hugs, friend.

A lot like…” Do the right thing” or ” just say Jesus” …I will add ” Go to the cross.” to my inventory of ” Faith Filters”
Crystal says
I like that – “faith filters” 🙂
