We just got home from the Amy Grant concert at the Luhrs Center and I have to say, it was one of the most fun shows I’ve been to in a very long time! I remember listening to Amy Grant as a little girl at our babysitters, and her music has always been so uplifting. It was great to hear her live for the first time – her band (including her incredibly talented daughter Jenny) had the best energy & were so amazingly talented it took your breath away. And let’s just pause for a moment of joy over the boots. Oh she was wearing the most amazing thigh-high brown leather boots with the cutest little heel. Can anyone say boot jealously? I think I spent the whole first song drooling a little over them. In love.
There were songs from the ’80s, songs from the ’90s, and songs from her new album, “Somewhere Down the Road.” Confession: I still know all the words to “Baby, Baby” and I totally sang along 🙂 There were amazing worship songs that almost made me cry, a new song called “Third World Woman” that painted a picture so vivid I thought she had transported us all to Africa, and a beautiful duet with her daughter called “Overnight” that hit me right in the heart with what I’ve been struggling with lately (see yesterday’s post about satisfaction). Here are the lyrics:
So, you’ve handed in your resignation,
contemplatin’ why nothin’ turns out right.
A little fed up with all the disappointments,
so what’s the point in wastin’ any time?
It’s only temporary, so what’s your hurry?
No need to worry. Don’t you know that,
If it all just happened overnight,
you wouldn’t know how much it means?
If it all just happened overnight,
you would never learn to believe
in what you cannot see,
what you cannot see.
I feel like pace is at a standstill.
Do I wait till it falls into my hands?
A long highway ahead, gettin’ started.
Steady hearted, is what I think I am.
There’s somethin’ to be said for experience.
Who knows what’s ahead. Keep on goin’.
(Take it a day, a day at a time)
One foot in front of the other,
(Take it a day, a day at a time)
No need to hurry, hurry.
(Take it a day, a day at a time)
It won’t happen over night.
It won’t happen over night.
Have a little faith,
(Have a little faith)
Must appreciate,
(Must appreciate)
Every single day,
Don’t give up, no.
What a blessing to be able to go to this concert tonight. Amy Grant shared stories, songs, and most importantly, her love for God with us. It felt like we were in her living room, and I hope she comes back to Shippensburg soon!
It is great that you have such vivid memories of your ‘childhood’ years of Amy’s music playing at your babysitters house! That is great. From the start of 1980 when I started listening NOTHING about Amy has changed much! She has always been the girl-next-door and someone you can have a great conversation with. As Vince once said, “the ‘hang’ is so easy.”
