Establish Your Plans

31Days, holy hustle, Time Management

A quick note before we jump in today – hello new Declare Conference friends! It was such an honor to meet all of you and speak this week. Thank you for your kindness, your prayers, and your hugs. I know you signed up to receive that free devo & my slides, so I wanted to let you know that you’ll also be receiving my Write 31 Days posts this month. Don’t panic – outside of the month of October you might receive one email per week from me, so don’t leave me 😉 I’m not typically in your inbox this often, but I do hope you’ll enjoy this series on time management: holy hustle style. xoxo

Time Management Tip: Get your thoughts on paper

There are a lot of mornings when I wake up and feel frozen, overwhelmed by everything that needs to be accomplished. Lists of must-do and should-do and like-to-do and what-they’re-doing run through my head and I have no idea where to start. What are my priorities? What actually needs to be accomplished today? I’ve been known to panic and binge watch the latest Fuller House season instead of starting just one thing. When we allow our lists to stay stuck in our heads, we have no concept of what truly needs to be done, how much time it will take, or where we need to start. By spending a few minutes, either at the end of your day or first thing the next morning, capturing all of those thoughts on paper, we can get a better sense of what our day, our week, and our month looks like. Write down every to-do and task that you know you need to work on, then add any deadlines you know about. Whether it’s on a whiteboard like I have in my office, your planner, or on a post-it note, getting everything out of your head will free up space to allow you to concentrate and start the work. Pray over your list, asking God to offer guidance and wisdom for the work ahead, and lean into His plan for your day with a clear mind.

Inspiration: “Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” Proverbs 16:3

This one is just for fun – because when we’re writing down all of those super serious and meaningful tasks, we should have a little fun, too! Why not check off things like “showered” and “wore pants”? I also really love these “I adulted today” stickers – I’m pretty sure those are going to be stocking stuffers for some friends this year at Christmas!

Fellow Write 31er here. I am really enjoying your series. I am in the process of starting my own business and your tips are like a deposit of gold as I think through the hows, whats, and whys of what I am doing. I love the suggestion of the to-do list and considering what must be done, should be done, and would like to be done. I am definitely putting that into practice. Thanks so much. You are an inspiration.
