I can’t do it all.
There. I said it. I just can’t. I’m not a super hero, I don’t have any more hours in the day than anyone else, and between a full-time job, a husband, and a toddler, I feel as though the days zip past without any regard to what I would have liked to accomplish that day.
So if I’m going to continue to pursue this God Sized Dream? Something’s gotta give. And until someone comes up with a way to just skip sleeping all together, that just isn’t going to be the answer for this girl. Mama LOVES her some sleep. Amen?
I’m a list maker by nature, so let’s list it up.
The Priorities
- God
- Husband
- Daughter
- Full-time job (gotta do what you gotta do)
- Zumba (or some kind of exercise)
The God Sized Dream Priorities
- (in)couragers community groups
- Blogging
- Twitter/Facebook community
What I Can Live Without
- TV (sniff…I love my shows)
- Saying “yes” to another new thing
- Having to be in charge of it all
- Being online ALL the time
If I’m going to focus my energy on achieving my God Sized Dream to encourage women through writing and speaking, I can’t waste the time I have. Don’t get me wrong…I love with a capital L “Downton Abbey,” but unless Carson is going to help me achieve my spoken & unspoken dreams and goals, well….he’ll just have to hang out On Demand for awhile 🙂
Let’s take a break from saying “yes” to all the new things for a season. Let’s give ourselves margin to step back and see the open doors God has before us before we rush through the first one. As we pursue our dreams, let’s be intentional about our time so that when the God-given opportunity and answer to prayer happens, we don’t have to turn it down because we’re too busy pursuing something else.
I want to stand with hands outstretched, expectantly waiting for God. I can’t do that when my hands are overflowing with other “stuff” that I’ve chosen to fill the waiting. Let’s pray about what those things are, the things we can lay gently at the foot of the cross for this season so we can lift open palms to the Father. It won’t be easy – but I can promise you this. When you have the first opportunity to spend an entire day doing what you love – when you can spend one whole day living your dream? You’ll realize it was worth it.
Let’s do the hard thing girls – let’s not do everything so we can save our time for the things God wants for us.
I’m linking up with Holley Gerth today – will you join me in reading the other God Size Dream team posts?
This is such a struggle. Not just to let go of the excess but to let go of good things for better things. I’m glad you’re stepping into your God sized dream, I love being a little part of that through the incourager groups. You are amazing, lady!
I landed on some of these same thoughts/conclusions…but it’s so hard to give up some of those things! Especially the tv shows…I hear ya! (Guess who gave up tv for Lent? Already in withdrawl…) Blessings!
wonderful! I am still not sure what my God-sized dream is, but for right now, I want to empty my hands and just be more present with where I am at in life.
Oh sweet dreamer, I’m feeling it with you, giving up some things I enjoy so that I can focus more on my God-sized dreams. I loved your forward thinking when you said, “When you have the first opportunity to spend an entire day doing what you love – when you can spend one whole day living your dream? You’ll realize it was worth it.” – That was encouragement I needed to hear this morning! Thank you! Whispering up a prayer for you this morning!
