Today’s prompt: Wonder
The weeks grow to a close. The countdown toward Christmas begins and somehow, even after nearly 30 of these, the wonder of the Christmas season still exists for me. It’s a surprise sometimes. The way I can become still so excited about the holidays when the rest of the year I fight – if I’m honest – some apathy toward “hype.”
But Christmas?
Advent?
The season of wonder, where miracles happen, snow falls, and lights twinkle? It gets my heart, every time.
Mostly, I’ll admit, it’s the “idea” of it all that brings joy and hope. The reality is never quite as twinkly as I imagine it to be. We run out of time to bake cookies, watch “White Christmas,” and wrap gifts. Most of my shopping is done online, not in stores full of Christmas music and crowds.
But nothing dims the wonder that comes with the realization that the countdown to Christmas culminates in the birth of a tiny baby in a manger. God came to earth. Sent His Son to save us. Me. You. And it all begins at Christmas.
Now that…that is wonderful.

So well said Crystal! So true.,.. and aren’t you so glad that even though the reality often just missed – the Wonder of it all still goes on! I loved your line: “The season of wonder, where miracles happen, snow falls, and lights twinkle? It gets my heart, every time.”
Mine too! Oh, yes – mine too!

So true… The most WONDERful time of the year! Whoohooo! Makes me wanna happy dance 🙂 Have a fabulous Christmas Season 🙂
Christmas Eve service is my favorite as well 🙂 It makes me sad that we can’t go this year (our 11pm service is just a LITTLE past our little’s bedtime) but I do love it so much!
Me too, Crystal! I love the wonder of this time of year and it always seeps deep into my heart. My favorite time is at our Christmas Eve service when the candles are lit and my husband plays “Silent Night” on his guitar and we all sing along. Oh, the wonder of what Jesus accomplished through his life and death and resurrection!
I’ve discovered that – with a toddler – there is no “doing” anymore! We’re lucky now if we manage to show up on time, with the diaper bag, shoes, and a snack 🙂 So thankful for grace, and that the true celebration of Christmas can happen even in our most chaotic moments!
What sweet words, thanks Mary! (and to think I wrote that on loads of cold medicine..I read your comment this morning & didn’t even recognize my own quote!)
Thanks so much for stopping by Jennifer!
Aww love!! it is wonderful that God sent His son!!
Oh Crystal… “But nothing dims the wonder that comes with the realization that the countdown to Christmas culminates in the birth of a tiny baby in a manger.” this is lovely and so perfect. Thank you for this beautiful post!
Fighting the hype can be exhausting! Until I remember why it’s all going on in the first place. We, too, run out of time for all of the Christmas “doings” – but never seem to lose the wonder of His miraculous birth.
