Behind The Scenes

WHAT IS THE “BEHIND THE SCENES” LINK UP?

Social media and online relationships can make us feel like everyone else has it all together. We’re edited, proof-read, Pinterest-perfect versions of ourselves  (or so some might think!) when – in reality? There is an unfinished pile of laundry around the corner. That cute toddler smiling for the camera just had a massive meltdown seconds ago. That yummy breakfast-for-dinner you just showed us on Instagram? It’s because the cat licked the chicken that was supposed to be for dinner.

“Behind the Scenes” is a fun link up where we show those photos – but tell the real story behind them. The sneak peek behind the scenes, a look past the edges of the photo to the real life behind it. Read more here!

The Photo:

The Story:
There are views like this all along my walk to work. Old buildings filled with new ideas, dreams, and businesses. Churches, banks, a store that sells lamps, some government buildings, a few restaurants all line the block of the historic little town.
I stop to look in the window of a new store, loving the excitement and anticipation of something new. It looks like a place I would enjoy, colorful, happy, and just plain fun. A few stores down is another establishment I have yet to visit, but look at longingly each time I walk by – windows filled with beautiful globes, decorations, nothing practical and everything whimsical.
I walk and I imagine spending a Saturday morning in autumn on those same sidewalks with my mom, my sister, maybe some girl friends. Just a girls day. Drinking coffee, laughing, browsing, and maybe wandering down to the store where you can make your own necklaces. It’s the kind of days I remember from college, and the kind I dream about now that I’m a mama. Care free. No need to rush back for nap time.
Today, though? Today I’m just blessed to walk to a job that I enjoy. To know that where God has me right now is good. So I stop and take a quick photo because I don’t want to skip over the blessings of this short walk. And maybe one of these days this fall, we’ll make that girls day a reality.

I love when I get to walk places – definitely one of the beauties of a small town. I love how you let us peek inside your walk and thoughts. 🙂

I too, love taking pictures when I am out for a walk. Often when I see things I am struck by a promise of God or a memory and I want to capture and savour how I felt in the moment. Love this story friend… and love you.

Love this and you, Crystal 🙂 I have been longing for the carefree days of college, too, but I try to remember that those days were back when I was lost without Christ, and my heart was selfish and greedy and ugly. Where He has us now? It’s good. Thanks for that reminder – even though it doesn’t always feel good, it’s right where He wants us. Now to take it all in 🙂 Happy Tuesday to you — will link up tomorrow!

Love that you have that time to soak in life as you walk to work. Sounds so refreshing!

(PS: Every time I read your blog now that we hung out at Declare I hear your quiet, humble voice in the words and it makes it even better 🙂 )

🙂 There’s something so beautiful in taking the time to breathe in the blessings of each moment. I love this…and I hope you get that girls’ day out soon! (Can I join you?) 😉 Blessings, friend!

I think recognizing the beauty in the ordinary of every day is so important to our souls. Joy will continue to flow in a heart that appreciates the gifts around us.
    Beautiful picture and wonderful story!
