WHAT IS THE “BEHIND THE SCENES” LINK UP?

“Behind the Scenes” is a fun link up where we show those photos – but tell the real story behind them. The sneak peek behind the scenes, a look past the edges of the photo to the real life behind it. Read more here!
I love watching her little shadow bounce around, strong and sure of herself. She believes with her whole heart that she’s cooking, creating, serving, and even cleaning. There’s no hesitation, no fear that someone will tell her she’s wrong, just pure imagination and delight. I just wish she wasn’t looking quite so grown up from this perspective.

The Story:
I moved her play kitchen from the playroom into the dining room a few weeks ago, to the shaking of my husband’s head, wondering why I was bringing toys into “his” space. Because if we’re honest around here, my husband is the cook. Also the housekeeper, in charge of laundry, takes care of the yard, and has been known to clean the bathrooms. All while making me bowls of pumpkin ice cream covered in homemade sea salt caramel and crushed gingersnap cookies. Can you see why I love him?
She loves to cook, this little girl of ours. And we love to encourage her to play on her own without us having to be trapped in her playroom reading endless piles of books or rebuilding Handy Manny’s building for the 800th time. I snapped this photo on Saturday, the bright morning light pouring in through the double doors on the back of our house. Pillows were tossed all over the living room floor where we’d been watching Mickey Mouse, right before she decided we needed a snack.
“I cook mommy”
The answer to “What are you making?” is always the same.
“Cheesy noodles. And hotdogs”
Sometimes she’ll add in a pizza, or maybe a cupcake, but without a doubt you’ll get cheesy noodles and hotdogs that are too hot to eat (“Hot mama! Hot! No eating!”) or a cup of juice while she points to daddy’s drink with a firm “Hot coffee mommy. No touching.”

P does this too; his kitchen is in our living room most of the time. And the menu is much the same– hotdogs and pizza. Kids know what’s good, right?
Oh I can’t wait to read these. This is a new to me link up. I just posted a short video of me folding laundry while my daughter practices the piano. Yes, it’s beautiful and only a part of my day. Other parts are noisy, messy and just wear a person out. God’s grace is right there in the middle of both.
Crystal such a beautiful photo of your daughter’s shadow playing. We too, have the kids toys set up in our breakfast nook that way I can be working in the kitchen while they are playing independently. It is so sweet to overhear little joyful moments that I might have missed otherwise.
