Time Management Tip: Prep for Your Week

Several years ago I decided to make some major health changes. I began working out 6 days a week and paying attention to what I was eating. Our grocery shopping became more intentional because we were meal planning. I knew what I would be eating for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks and we stocked our shelves and fridge accordingly. I’d spend time each Sunday chopping vegetables and measuring out portions of fruit, getting the items together that I would be eating that week. It helped me learn about portion size, and the prep work took the guesswork out of making a good decision.

When we take the time to prep for our upcoming week, we set ourselves up for success. We can see what deadlines we have, what needs to be done, and we can prioritize our plans (a previous tip) before the chaos of the week starts up again. That way our decisions can be made thoughtfully, focusing on what truly needs to be done versus what feels urgent and panicked. Just like meal prep makes you more likely to grab an option that is healthy for your body, work prep will help you make decisions that are healthy for your soul.

Inspiration: “I am not a product of my circumstances. I am a product of my decisions.” —Stephen Covey

Resource: hope*writers podcast

It’s not often that I work in silence, so I love to have a good podcast on in the background when I’m working. If that’s something that fits your personality (not everyone can work with background noise) the hope*writers podcast is educational, entertaining, and encouraging. Their episodes, like “How to Capture and Organize All Your Awesome Writing Ideas,” and “How to Know When to Change Course” are a great match for this series.
