Let me experience
Your faithful love in the morning,
for I trust in You.
Reveal to me the way I should go
because I long for You.
Psalm 143:8
The Lie We Believe: I’m not good enough.
The Truth: We don’t need to be good enough because God’s love is unfailing
Before the internet even existed, people were comparing themselves to one another. Even without Pinterest, there was always that one mama who brought in the fancy cupcakes to school or had the kid with the phenomenal science fair project. Maybe you didn’t see the book deal someone across the country was signing because Instagram wasn’t a “thing,” but you knew when someone got the promotion at work you’d been working so hard to earn.
Comparison and jealousy aren’t new. We read about it in the very first book of the Bible, so we can feel pretty confident that God knows about our struggles with envy. And for all those moments when we struggle with feeling like we’ll never be good enough, God has a solution.
We don’t have to be.
God doesn’t promise to love us when we get our act together. He doesn’t tell us that as soon as we have perfect hair, a secure career, well-behaved children, a husband who adores our every action, and a list of successful volunteer experiences we’ll be good enough for His love. Nope.
Maybe the circles you’ve chosen to place yourself in tell you that. But God doesn’t. Which makes me ask – are those circles really the right community for you?
God’s love is faithful. It’s there for us every morning. We can trust Him to guide our days and set our paths. And when we wake up each morning and trust that God loves us the way He says He does, we can stop trying so hard to be “good enough.”
Questions:
- Do you struggle with feeling “good enough?”
- Take a look at the circles you’re in – are they community, or do they foster competition?
- How differently do you think your day would go if you started reading this Psalm each morning?
