It’s that time again, where we write our hearts out for five minutes, hit publish without editing (which isn’t unlike how I normally write), and then link up at lisajobaker.com. If you’re new to Five Minute Friday, we’d love for you to join us! This week the prompt is: Mighty
None of us can do it all.
We aren’t superheroes.
But that doesn’t make us weak.
Sometimes the fact that I can’t do it all, say it all, write it all makes me feel like I’m less-than. That what I can do doesn’t matter and trying my hardest isn’t worth it. But we are mighty. Not in our own strength, but because God promises to fill in those gaps. When we stop trying to fit worth into a big platform shaped box, we realize that we can do mighty, world-changing, hope-bringing, life-giving things really well – in small ways.
- By listening to a friend.
- When we give to a cause we care about.
- In sponsoring a child.
- When we buy a book and share it with a friend because we know her heart needs to hear the message, too.
- In sending that email to cheer for someone instead of choosing envy.
- By telling our story so someone else can hear it and say “it’s not just me.”
- When we stop feeling guilty about the path God has us on and start to simply choose to obey His will.
“Mighty” doesn’t come packaged in big muscles, loud voices, or front-page news. It comes in the quiet strength of women who choose to make a difference in the world because they know they aren’t superheroes. But their hearts are home to the One who is more awesome than any storybook character.

My amazingly talented friend Lisa-Jo is celebrating the launch of her first book on April 1st! Woohoo! If you haven’t already pre-ordered a copy of “Surprised by Motherhood,“ I highly recommend it. Whether you are a mother, have a mother, or know a mother, you will love this book. And you don’t need to wait until next week to buy it – it’s been spotted in stores already! Yay! This is the type of motherhood book that will feel like a heart-friend sitting down with you for coffee to say “Yes. Me, too.” And you will love it 🙂

Hi Crystal, Love your words here. And the reminder that we may be living out God’s calling to an even greater degree when we lay down our own desires and agendas (writing, cleaning, etc) to meet with someone, to pray for someone, to sponsor a child! I needed that reminder.
So nice to meet you last weekend (: Your blog is super cute!!
This IS mighty right here: “When we stop feeling guilty about the path God has us on and start to simply choose to obey His will.” Always strengthened and encouraged by your posts, Crystal.
God does fill in those gaps – doesn’t he! and I am so glad He does – it takes a lot of pressure off me. I recognized myself in this line: ‘”mighty, world-changing, hope-bringing, life-giving things really well – in small ways” – I am learning that is rich, beautiful living loving in the small ways!
I am pretty excited about this book! I read the first three chapters last night, and yeah I cried a little. My kids are teenagers, and there are just so many little memories those three chapters brought back. So I went straight to Amazon and pre-ordered. Then encouraged others to do the same. What a blessing Lisa-Jo is!
And, I love everything you had to say about Mighty 🙂 I can only imagine what a blessing you are to women as well. Stopping by from FMF…
This is great! Those last two sentences – oh my word, so much Amen girl! So so much!
Crystal, what a powerful thought – “Mighty” doesn’t come packaged in big muscles, loud voices, or front-page news. It comes in the quiet strength of women.” Love that – quiet strength. I am so grateful I stopped here this morning. May we each be infused with His quiet strength to meet the day ahead! Blessings!
I agree, such truth!! Thank you for your words, Crystal!
I just love you. “…the quiet strength of women who choose to make a difference in the world because they know they aren’t superheroes. But their hearts are home to the One who is more awesome than any storybook character…” YES! xo
When I am close to God, and when I walk within a beautiful community of women who hold my arms up when I feel week, as I have often felt over the last few months, I feel His beauty all around me.
Awesome post, giving it all back to God right where it belongs. He carries us through so much and its unfathomable how mighty he must be to do so much and still have time to listen to our prayers and wipe away our tears. We have an awesome God for sure!
Love this: ““Mighty” doesn’t come packaged in big muscles, loud voices, or front-page news. It comes in the quiet strength of women who choose to make a difference in the world because they know they aren’t superheroes.” Amen. No superhero here. But Mighty in His hands when I let Him be Mighty in mine. Thank you for sharing! Another FMF sister visiting here. 🙂
Oh, how I need Him to fill in the gaps! Great post!
Look at you go! Dang, I haven’t even gotten the blog open and you’re a whiz with images. I shall sit at your feet and learn, blogging ninja.
