There are times in this motherhood race where taking time to cherish anything seems foolish. The favorite tea cup will be broken, the new rug will be stained, the sleep you thought you would get tonight will be interrupted.
So I let it all go. I live with ruined and stained and sleepless and I choose my family.
We learn to live with one another’s imperfections and brokenness.
We stop trying to make it about the things and instead make it about the ones God has told us HE cherishes.
God didn’t choose new rugs as His cherished, personal treasure (Deut. 7) – He chose us.
You and me.
Despite the fact that we ruin it all and bring nothing to the table.
Because He loves us.
So when my sleep is interrupted (again), or I have to clean up the mess (again), I pray this week for eyes to see the beauty behind it all. The little girl given to us by grace who brings joy and chaos and laughter. The amazing husband, best friend, who delights in his family and serves us through food and snuggles.
I will choose to cherish what God cherishes.

Hi Crystal! I finally got a chance to read through a few FMF posts and I’m so glad I read yours. I literally just experienced the broken favorite mug, and I’m dealing with the frustration of messy feedings as I transition my baby to solid foods. Thank you for the reminder of patience and grace and choosing to cherish the moments of beauty hidden behind the mess. 🙂
Nikki, you make me feel loved 🙂 lol…I was so tired this week, mama was in bed WELL before the FMF party started! Loved seeing a new face in that #1 spot though!
such a wise noggin’ you have, Crystal…your children are so blessed.
and so am I…wowsers does He love me…
(and can I just whisper something to you? I was so shocked to not see you in the #1 spot! I feel awful, but my first thought was “Who is taking Crystal’s spot?!? That’s not Mary Beth!) 🙂
Why do we not live closer to one another? This year we will get together in real life again – somehow! Muah!
Ashley, I’m so glad you visited 🙂
Thank you Richelle 🙂
Oh and don’t I ruin it more often than not? So thankful for grace! Happy Friday!
So glad you stopped over! You’re welcome, any time!
Praying that for you this evening!
So glad!
I just love seeing your encouraging words here Stefanie! You bless me 🙂
Oh those giggles bring it all back to focus, don’t they? And make it easier to count the blessings than the cries 🙂
Thank you Christie 🙂
Love you too, sweet friend. You always encourage me, words I need when i feel like my brain just didn’t have it together for this post!
Yes, you have chosen the better part. Love you sister!
Gorgeous and honest! I feel the same, and love how you point out the beauty in it all!
Sweet perspective, my friend! Sometimes I forget, but then I hear the giggles, I can’t help but be thankful and cherish these blessings that I live with!
Your post reminds me of when Jesus is visiting Martha and Mary, and Martha bustled around taking care of details around the house while Mary sat at his feet. Martha got all frustrated because Mary wasn’t helping, but she missed the point — she needed to stop and enjoy the presence of Jesus! SOOOO many times I have to remind myself of this same idea! 🙂
I hopped over from 5 Minute Friday on Lisa-Jo’s blog, and wanted to say hello. 🙂 I love your heart!
