I have a folder full of book ideas in my Google Drive. Outlines of books I’d like to write, eBooks I could self-publish, outlines of potential books that must just turn into a Write 31 Days series. Since the ideas come at really random times, like in the car or while I’m waiting at the dentist, Google Drive has been the easiest place to store those ideas until they can become a work-in-progress. It’s not a fancy process, just an email to myself before mama brain kicks in and I forget.
Every once in awhile I go through that folder and realize that God is telling me that “now” is the time to work on one of those projects, but in a different way than I originally intended. A few months ago God gave me the go-ahead to turn “Holy Hustle” into a book proposal (exciting news about that soon!) and last week I took some content and turned into a devotional series I think you’ll really love. A little background:
Hustle is such a tough word for most of us. It feels like something we shouldn’t do and my own love of work and my motivation to work hard makes me feel ashamed when most of the messages in my inbox are about grace and soul-care and rest. Then, when I do rest, I feel guilty. But God gives us beautiful examples of what it looks like to work hard and rest well, and that balance, that holy hustle, redeems that phrase for me.
It’s not just about doing the work or resting well, it’s also about enjoying where God has called us, no matter how small. It’s about choosing faith instead of chasing fame. Your every day, messy, ordinary, beautiful life and the gifts and talents God has given you are enough – not because we are enough, but because God is more than enough.
- If you have ever struggled to serve where God has called you, this devotional series is for you.
- If you have ever wondered if your gifts are enough, this devotional series is for you.
- If you have wondered what holy hustle looks like practically, this devotional series is for you.
You’ll receive an introduction email as soon as you sign up followed by 7 daily devotionals to encourage you to discover the small ways God is calling you to serve Him, right where you are with exactly what He’s given you. None of the content will be posted here, so be sure to sign up. And if you would invite a friend or two to join us, I would be so grateful.
I love the line “It’s about choosing faith instead of chasing fame.” I’ve had to stop and think about that many times since I began blogging. I would start to compare myself to those who are doing speaking engagements, being published etc. Then I would remind myself that God called me to blog to spread His word, not seek fame. If it is His will for me, so be it, but I must not seek it in everything I do.
It is a balance but when I didn’t rest or even sleep I wasn’t any good to anybody. I get those writing cues too, I’m working on them. And sometimes I can sleep 12 hrs. and get more done in 4.
Thank you. Looking forward to this!
