We went to the woods. Our hearts craved the beauty and majesty of something bigger than ourselves, an escape into the brisk November air with our little girl. There has been something about the weather this year that draws us outside to parks, playgrounds, picnic tables, and campfires. It is in these moments that my husband vividly remembers falling in love with our daughter and her joy for life.
We wondered if the leaves were truly more beautiful this year, or if we were just now noticing them more clearly through the eyes of our toddlers. To her, it’s all new and exciting. The bridges, water, sunshine streaming over fire colored leaves mixed with evergreens. Dry leaves crunching underfoot, giggling as she goes down the big twisty slide on her daddy’s lap.
She takes us out of ourselves, this little girl of ours. The one who turns two next week. I thought I would spend most of my time with her looking down, stooped to her level and yet this year? She has me looking up. Not just to the leaves on the trees, but to the One who created it all. This toddler of mine has me soaking in creation and Creator, turning to God with hands and face lifted up to breathe in….more.
WHAT IS THE “BEHIND THE SCENES” LINK UP?
Social media and online relationships can make us feel like everyone else has it all together. We’re edited, proof-read, Pinterest-perfect versions of ourselves (or so some might think!) when – in reality? There is an unfinished pile of laundry around the corner. That cute toddler smiling for the camera just had a massive meltdown seconds ago. That yummy breakfast-for-dinner you just showed us on Instagram? It’s because the cat licked the chicken that was supposed to be for dinner.

I loved this today. I think, as a mother, this is one of things I miss the most. Experiencing anything through the eyes of a small child. Such wonder they behold and they don’t miss a beat letting you know just how wonderful they think everything is.

They do have SO much to teach us. It seems so counter intuitive. How can they be learning all day long and yet have such wealth to share? It’s awesome. I’m going to look around for a picture myself now! This link up is a fantastic idea.

My babies have made me truly understand what it is to call God our Creator. Every time I catch a glimpse of pure innocent joy residing in my children, I see more of Him. Your words are beautiful today, friend! Happy early birthday to your baby girl!
