It’s not often I write about guys on this blog, with the exception of the occasional story about my husband or family members. There isn’t a specific reason for it, other than following God’s vision for my space on the internet to be a place to encourage, equip and inspire women. Which is pretty specific 🙂
But I’ll make an exception today to introduce my buddy Shaun. Not that he probably needs an introduction – he’s pretty well known around the interwebs for being an awesome musician (hint: buy his new Christmas album) and running the Compassion International Blogger trips. When applications for those trips open up, he’s the most popular man on the internet.
We’re just going to go ahead and skip the part where I say “I first met Shaun on Twitter” because if you’ve been reading enough of these posts, you’ve figured it out. I love me some Twitter community. But I’ve had the chance to get to know Shaun a little better over the last year, learn a little more about all that he does for Compassion, and he’s truly become one of my favorite people. Plus, he’s pretty much a side-hug pro. Can’t go wrong with that!
Shaun is the ultimate storyteller. The posts he writes on his blog are incredible but when he speaks? He commands the room. And usually makes us cry, though I won’t hold that against him even if I do have a firm rule against crying in public. He is committed to using the voice God gave him to make a difference in the lives of those who would otherwise remain silent. Shaun has taught me what it means to be generous – not just with my finances, though we do have two Compassion children – but with my time and my resources. Shaun works harder and juggles more behind the scenes than anyone I’ve ever met – and would never let you know it. He listens carefully, laughs often and loves his family and friends well.
Shaun has shown me that the internet and social media can be used for good if we’re intentional about our passions and avoiding “choice paralysis.” You don’t have to do it all – just do something 😉

Wow. You can’t imagine how well-timed this encouragement was this morning, Crystal. I’m truly exhausted after a long weekend on the road that left me wondering if I’m any good at what I do. I sat down a minute ago to procrastinate…I mean…check Twitter, before catching up on repairs and light bulb replacement and a zillion other things around the house and found these kind words of yours waiting for me there. Really, Crystal, thank you. For being a friend online and in the real world too. Just the genuine kindness I needed this morning.

God’s timing is amazing – I wrote this back in September so I could get ahead with my 31 Days series – so grateful He knew just when you would need it 🙂
