Not Enough

Read: 2 Corinthians 3:5

I love you guys, but listen to me. All the internet’s cute meme’s and talk about how we’re enough! We can do it! You can do anything you put your mind to! Go you! It’s a bunch of trash.

Yes, we can do amazing things and we’re capable of a lot more than we probably give ourselves credit for, but thinking that we’re enough to do it on our own leaves the most important piece out of the equation. God.

To be honest, I’ve never been great at group projects and I struggle to ask people for help. It’s easier and quicker to do things on my own. Or at least that’s what I’ve convinced myself in the past. But relying on myself has only set me up to struggle with pride, fear failure, and avoid community. Today’s verse is one that I keep nearby as I work as I reminder that, despite what the world likes to shout as I scroll, it’s not all about me.

When we remember that we’re on God’s team, we can let go of having to do it all on our own. We can stop feeling competitive and threatened by the skills other people have and find ways to honor them, invite them in, and work together. It’s not that we can’t do the work on our own, but we’ll be able to do SO much more when we stop saying “what’s in it for me” and starting asking “how can I honor God through this?” – in both our work, and our rest.

Today, spend some time in prayer asking God to show you where you’ve been trying to do it all on your own, or where you’ve been buying into the world’s version of “you’re enough!” Where does He want you to invite Him back into your work, or your rest?
