Five Minute Friday: Song

FMF

Today’s prompt: Song

GO:

Do you believe it? You know it as Truth, don’t you? God rejoices over you with singing. Not just a golf clap when things go well. Not a little rehearsed number out of obligation. The God of the universe delights in you so much that he sings. Mighty warrior God, Creator, Father, the One Who Sees – he sings over you, his daughter.

Because you are absolutely worth it. Do you know what that song sounds like? To me, it’s probably like the song my mom sang over me when I was little..the song I now sing to Madison. “I love you, a bushel and a peck..a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck.” Does it sound like that to you? Do you hear a song of love, a song of a Father’s pride in his very beautiful creation?

From the very first moment I gave my heart to Jesus he has pursued me through song. I have been overcome by the presence of the Holy Spirit in moments of stunning worship to the point of breathlessness. He has worked refinement over me through lyrics. I have written worship songs to him because he is the one who gives me words. He sings over me and there is nothing more I love doing more than singing back to him.

And the times the enemy is able to sneak a little foothold into my mind, to attempt to pull me out of community? It’s when my heart isn’t worshipping. When I’m too caught up in fighting my own battles, opening my own doors, and thinking about myself, I’m singing my song and leaving nothing to give back to the Father.

These words? They’re his. And I give them back again and again because I know he sings new ones over me every morning.

Clearly, I’m behind on reading FMF posts this week! But, I just stumbled onto yours and, needless to say, you words confirmed what I already assumed: we’re kinda sorta maybe a little bit the same person. Triplets, you know. Same verse, kinda the same take on Song. Thankful for you and your friendship!

Amen…so easy to get caught up in life. I love the way you express the entry point as when we stop worshipping. Absolutely true. When we praise, the devil flees!

it’s funny the childhood songs that have come back to me since having a little one. I distinctly remember this one though as one that made me feel so loved and safe. Glad we get to pass these down to our kiddos πŸ™‚

Exactly! And the right song, at the right time, has done more work to change my heart than the best intentioned advice of friends and family.

Beautiful words. Oddly this is the first day I have heard of that song. I am reading through many of the FMF today for a boost of encouragement/fellowship and I have seen it a few times. I feel like God is placing it before me for a reason. Thank you for sharing! Bless you and yours, Have a great weekend

There’s something so great and wonderful and magnificent about songs and being pursued through them. It’s even greater when we use our own songs to worship back to God. I love how your words always come together so beautifully. Powerful post. Loved it!

Zephaniah 3:17 is one of my absolute favorite verses. I love the picture of God singing over us. Thanks for this Crystal- I love the reminder to worship Him. It truly changes us, doesn’t it?! Love to you!

  35. Karrilee Aggett says

I love this Crystal… I live this! Worship is so key and so much a part of my everyday life- if who I am… and you are right – when things feel out of focus or unbalanced – it’s worship that brings me back to center!

“God rejoices over you with singing. Not just a golf clap when things go well. Not a little rehearsed number out of obligation.” I love that. This is one of my favorite verses. And it does show this excitement and passion and intentionality in God’s love for us that we sometimes pass over. It is much more than a golf clap.

Music is such a gift. It is a key way that I connect to God, and that He reaches me. Singing is a beautiful expression of love.

I share songs with God all the time. There are days I turn on worship and say “God, I’m coming to find you”…and I sing…and in the song, I find Him. And yes, He does sing too, doesn’t He? What a love song. πŸ™‚

I love this. I always love songs with Amy in them, Switchfoot’s in particular (yes, I LOVE Switchfoot). The thought of having my own “theme song” sung to me is unbelievable that I would be so special. Thank you for this reminder!! http://youtu.be/fZMOXfbYNeE – in case you don’t know it.
