I’m not very good with starting a new series on this blog.
Ok that’s a lie.
I’m VERY good at starting a new series. I just usually forget that I started it and then never write more than one or two posts. Which isn’t really a series. It’s more of an accident. So I’m not calling this a “Christmas List” series. Nope.
But if it WERE going to be a series, I’d probably post here and there leading up to Christmas about some great ideas from my Christmas list. And while I do love a good cute pair of shoes under the tree on Christmas morning, these ideas are less about me and more about doing something for someone else this Christmas.
For example 🙂
You might know that I adore Compassion and the work they do around the world with children living in poverty. I had a phenomenal hour long phone call the other week with one of their Advocate orientation leaders and it made me realize how passionate I am about this organization. If I’m honest, I didn’t really think that there was much he could teach me about Compassion that I didn’t already know. I’ve been sponsoring a child with them since I was a sophomore in college (not the same child, sadly) so it’s been…a few years 🙂
But I did learn something! A lot of somethings actually but one that I really felt I needed to share. I know that budgets are tight for everyone this Christmas, and a monthly sponsorship sometimes just isn’t going to happen. I know I would like to sponsor about 10 children but right now God has us in a place where we’re focusing on just our buddy Mizriam in Mexico and we’re ok with that.

Here’s the thing. Just because you can’t sponsor a child right now doesn’t mean you can’t support the work that Compassion is doing! Did you know that they have an “Unsponsored Children Fund?” Neither did I! You can make a one time donation to this specific fund to help support children who are accepted into the Compassion program but don’t yet have a sponsor. Isn’t that awesome?
If you’d like to donate toward one of their other 10 funds that accept one time donations, you can click here.
If you feel like God is putting it on your heart to sponsor a child, you can click here 🙂
So this Christmas, would you consider putting Compassion on your Christmas list? And let me know in the comments so I can pray for you? What other “gifts for others” do you have on your list this year?
