Earlier this week I had the privilege and honor to guest post over at Allume. If you are new to blogging, i highly recommend guest posting, especially at (in)courage and Allume. Those ladies make you feel like the best thing since french toast bagels and Nutella. And the readers? They leave the sweetest comments on the planet, and share links to your posts like you’re their new best friend. Love. Not enough hugs in the world to express my gratitude.
And since my brain now usually thinks in two modes: mommy and blogger, I wasn’t surprised to realize that I response I wrote to one of the commenters was inspiring me to write a new post. Here’s what I wrote:
“Imagine what we could accomplish if we just jumped fully into who God created us to be?”
Well then. Ahem.
Don’t you just love when God hits you with some truth and you hear (or see) it come from…you? It makes me wonder, how am I limiting what I could do with my talents by believing the lies that someone else can do it better than me? What amazing parts of God’s plan for my life am I pushing aside because I’m trying to be someone else?
And the ever popular…so what now?
A few things come to mind – not a perfect or complete list, but a good top 3:
1. Pray – ask God to reveal to your heart who you are in His eyes
2. Stop Comparing – God created Esther for “such a time as this” and He created you for the same. This beautiful quote captures it perfectly:
“The splendor of the rose and the whiteness of the lily do not rob the little violet of its scent nor the daisy of its simple charm. If every tiny flower wanted to be a rose, spring would lose its loveliness” Therese of Lisieux
3. Encourage Someone – do you know what I’ve discovered as I put my whole heart out there in this online community? When you encourage others, they will return the favor. This journey isn’t easy – let’s lift one another up a little more (another whole blog post for another day!).
I can’t be someone else. I’m just me. Type A, creative, organized, mommy, beer drinker, Jesus lover, wife, writer, nap craver, dusting hater, daughter of the King (not necessarily in that order). And if I’m a daisy in a field of roses, then I pray to be the best daisy I can be, to add a little color & variety.
What would you do if you knew nothing could stop you?

Glad I saw this today. It would’ve been lost on me on the first. I love your enthusiasm; it’s contagious. I need to do some serious searching, but I can see God bringing my life into alignment in very tangible ways. I think I’m definitely a violet, or some other purple flower. 🙂

That is definitely the hardest part. The only part I’ve really figured out is that I’m not supposed to be someone else. But who I am? A work in progress 🙂

Girl God is working in our hearts very similarly!! Through a series of things, God is really challenging me to step out and he brave! So what if I fail? Just trying is a success. I’ve always wanted to write a book but don’t know what about. I kept telling myself to wait I til I was older and had more wisdom to share. But now I’m beginning to think maybe I should try. And just see.
Thanks for being brave. I’m gonna borrow some of your courage and try to be brave too!

Do it girl! You never know who needs to hear what you have to say from where you are right now. Would love to hear more about what you want your book to be about!

I like daises! 🙂
I love this… If only I could figure who God created me to be!
